Intro

Hello, welcome to the Wordle Myco podcast episode #3 with your host Reid Wender the AutoMyco guy.

This week we have the words Cheek, Ample, Flair, Foyer, Cargo, Oxide and Plant. Let's dive right in.

CHEEK

For cheek April 16 2022 Wordle number 301 I always like to go a few different ways from a straight forward perspective cheek and mushroom soup is classic dish and cheek yes we mean like beef cheek or the cheek of a cow I remember one time when I was in Shanghai with a hot pot restaurant and inside the restaurant they had a picture another picture but an illustration like as a cow with all the different cuts of meat but they literally meant from head to tail every different kind of meet you could have tongue brain cheek stomach intestines you name it was available in that restaurant for hot pot so cheeks are a prized piece of meat off of many animals and it makes for a savory
type of a soup dish braised cheek or a mushroom soup what you can also if we look back at the word trope that we had in the past you know and look at some classic tropes there's thought about being like cheeky humorous and that would be a mushroom hopping around the forest being a bit of a fun guy it's kind of like in the movie Encanto yeah you have to guess my Encanto references in 2022 when Bruno walks up to his sister on her wedding day and says Hey it's going to rain with that mischievous smile on his face he was being a bit of a cheeky fun guy at the moment sorry we'll try to get away from that horrible humor the rest of the show.

AMPLE

All right for April the seventeenth our Wordle word is ample Now, Ample means to have enough or more than enough so I'm taking a stretch I think I'm trying to figure out exactly how we use ample from a mycology or mushroom perspective today but when you're fruiting mushrooms they need ample moisture and fresh air so I'll insert our first sponsored ad here on the Wordle Myco program and it's for the AutoMyco AutoMyco is a product we make here at Wender Farms it's kind of the Keurig of mushroom fruiting it's a controlled environment for growing mushrooms and it provides just the right humidity and fresh air exchange to keep CO2 levels See mushrooms there are like plants they don't want CO2 in and oxygen out there the other way around just like animals they want oxygen in and CO2 out so the AutoMyco fruiting chamber has a carbon dioxide sensor built into the chamber and they're fresh air exchange fan and anytime the CO2 levels get too high in the AutoMyco chamber the fan turns on and provides ample amounts of fresh air to keep the oxygen levels just right in the CO2 levels low so yep a bit of a stretch for April seventeenth and a direct plug for the Wender Farms AutoMyco mushroom fruiting chamber but is a good way to grow mushrooms when you're getting started without having to know everything there is about mycology.

FLAIR

For April eighteenth 2022 Wordle Myco word 303 is flair I was gonna go with now that's a flare is a special aptitude or skill in the fungi kingdom is something that has a flair for getting rid of bacteria sorry super stretch for the day but that's all we've got.

FOYER

For April nineteenth Wordle word number 304 was foyer now foyer is a architectural word that means I can open the entrance or area in the building it's close to vestibule which is a word that we use for the entrance chamber from one part of the building to another and it's used in medical terms for that same kind of structural concept a vestibular nerve is a part of the ear that transitions from the mechanical part of the ear to the backside of the ear towards the brain to help with hearing now the ear can be impacted by what Meniere's disease which can result in vertigo or dizzy spells interesting though mushroom diets may help with this condition there have been studies that are recent studies we're having mushrooms in the diet can help with neuroinflammation it provides anti-neurodegenerative benefits so mushrooms have been shown to be helpful for these types of conditions we've known about things like lion's mane being a pretty super mushroom as far as taking care of brain health goes and this is just some other indications out there that mushrooms have a special medicinal beneficial medical properties when it comes to your brain health.

Intro

Welcome to the world Myco podcast with your host Reid Wender aka the Auto Myco guy. This is the Wordle Myco podcast for April 18, 2022 - Episode #2. This week's Wordle Myco words include Stair, Black, Squad, Royal, Chuck, Mince, and Shame. We've got some very Myco interesting words for the week so let's dive right in...

STAIR

The first word for the week is Stair for April 19, 2022. When you think of Stairs and mushrooms the most common thing to me that comes to mind is many mushrooms grow on trees in a Stair-like pattern if you go out and look at things like chicken of the woods other things that they look like circular plates growing out from the side of trees and they grow round up the and they're often referred to as like a mushroom staircase or a fairy staircase certainly wouldn't recommend walking on any of the stair cases but if you look at the word you'll see what looks like mushroom staircases.

BLACK

For word number two we have black for April 10 2020. Black is all over the place for things we can talk about. We could think about black as generally associated with death and decay. Fungi are gonna play a very important role in the decomposing of dead organic matter into really useful stuff compounds nutrient structure etcetera for the rest of the plant animal bacterial kingdom and they're very important in getting these nutrients to plants.

There's a common mushroom known as tree ear or cloud ear or edible black fungus these mushrooms have a jelly like consistency and they're very much on the chewy side mushrooms are quite popular in Asian cuisine the black fungus mushroom has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds if not thousands of years and black fungus is low in fat and high in fiber (remember our April 6th Wordle word) and loaded with many essential vitamins.

There's also the black trumpet mushroom found in the United Kingdom during late summer and fall there said to be one of the most they're said to have one of the most potent mushroom flavors available from any wild mushroom in the U. K. they deliver this intense earthy and woody flavor with a hint of sweet.

There's also the black truffle. It is the fruiting body of an underground a fungus the black truffle or black paracord truffle is named after the pair of border region in France.

SQUAD

April 11, 2022, brought us the Wordle word Squad. Squad a small group of people having a particular task. At first blush, squad isn't an overly 'mushroomy' word so I'll take liberties today but from a mycology or fungi or mushroom focused point of view there are some companies out there where they have everyone at that company focused on mycology you know so you might think of them as like a myco squad in fact some myco companies even talk about their team members of their companies as being on a myco squad I'd say the team over at Myco technology mycoiq.com most certainly could be called a Myco squad if you thought of mushrooms is super heroes you must think of them as the myco squad like if there was a superhero for focus B. Lion's Mane or the anti inflation team member would not be reishi cordyceps is the performance the high performance team member of the myco squad chaga is Mr. antioxidant so that's a like I said a bit about taking license with squad from a myco focus.

royal

April 12, 2022 the Wordle word was royal. Royal is a king or queen or a member of their family. There are the royal trumpet or king oyster mushrooms and they typically have much thicker stalks and are tall. (they are very 'stalky' -
sorry for that word) but they there's a lot of stock compared to the cap for these types of mushrooms. They are an excellent source of antioxidants the antioxidants are a sort of  master antioxidants Royal trumpet mushrooms have been shown in studies to lower cholesterol and help with weight loss

CHUNK

April 13, 2022 our worldle word was chunk - thick piece of something. Well, when I think about a chunky mushroom it is most definitely chaga. Chaga mushrooms look like a this big chunk of charcoal or black chunks. It's a big piece of something growing on the side of a tree but if you break open chaga has this orange tissue in inside. Chaga is often available ground up in the form of a supplement that can be used to make teas or chaga infused coffee. Chaga is rich in antioxidants and several beneficial plant compounds including  polysaccharides, polyphenols, and flavans. The chaga mushroom contains many of the compounds that may reduce LDL or bad cholesterol and chaga being rich in antioxidants may help prevent cancer and slow its growth.

MINCE

Now moving on to April 14, 2022 our wordle word was mince or to cut into small pieces. Well for me obviously mincing or cutting mushrooms into small pieces is the beginning of delicious cooking. When you mince up a mushroom you expose lots of its surface area so it can soak up broths and deliver it's umami to whatever dish you're cooking.

SHAME

April 15, 2022 is a word with a bit of a negative connotation. Shame a painful feeling of humiliation. Shame in mushroom speak is probably something like pick shaming. Some people think there's an exactly the right way to go out into the woods and harvest mushrooms and pick shaming is when you make someone feel bad about the way they harvest mushrooms and some people say oh you're picking up too much of the mushroom you're getting the mycelium aka the roots don't do that you know some studies show it's healthier to take more of the root out when you're harvesting some people say you're taking too much of the mushrooms we know mushrooms were pretty perishable thing if you're harvesting mushrooms and you plan on eating the mushrooms sure have at it it's always nice to leave some for others and use your best judgment there but don't make people feel bad for how they're picking mushrooms spread mushroom joy not mushroom shame.
